Diane Pataki

Associate Director

Dr. Diane Pataki is a Professor of Biology and Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the College of Science at the University of Utah, with adjunct appointments in the University’s Department of City & Metropolitan Planning. She is an urban ecologist who studies the role of vegetation and landscaping in cities by measuring the influence of urban plants on climate, water resources, and pollution. She was previously on the faculty of the University of California, Irvine and moved to the University of Utah in 2012 to participate in the innovative work of the Center for Ecological Planning and Design. Through the CEPD, she is learning more about the practice of planning and innovative ways to link ecological theory, measurements of the performance of landscape designs, and practice in ways that can sustain and improve the quality of life in the Wasatch Front and beyond. She is the principal investigator of the Urban Ecology Research Laboratory in the Department of Biology.
