Dr. Steve Burian is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Utah. His professional goals are to advance water system resiliency and sustainability through research and inspire learners with his passionate, engaged approach to education. Dr. Burian currently is the Director of the University of Utah Water Center, the Project Director of the USAID-funded U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, and the Associate Director for the Global Change and Sustainability Center. Through this leadership, he seeks to stimulate multi-disciplinary initiatives to have an impact on research, education, and communities. His research group has contributed new approaches for designing urban water infrastructure, modeling complex urban water systems, planning distributed water-energy-food systems in cities, and adapting water systems facing aging infrastructure, climate change, and other challenges. Dr. Burian is a registered Professional Engineer in Utah and maintains a consulting relationship with Harit Solutions, a firm he helped co-found in India.
