The University of Utah
College of Architecture + Planning

HISTORY

In view of the many catastrophic events experienced by the U.S. and Caribbean in 2017, a group of faculty from CA+P, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Humanities and Public Health at the University of Utah, met on November 1st, 2017, to discuss the potential of collaborative, interdisciplinary research. The discussion led to multiple grant proposals in 2017 and eventually, to the formation of the Utah Resilience Initiative (URI).

Since its inception, the Utah Resilience Initiative has continued to involve itself in research and planning centered on disaster recovery.  In the academic year 2018-2019, the URI, along with its partners, brought the Year of Resilience to the University of Utah in order to facilitate discussion and promote community resiliency.
